My Story
I’m a self taught home baker and have always had a love of baking and food in general. I didn’t grow up baking but rather the passion for this came much later.
My husband and I have been fortunate to travel to a few places across the world and food definitely played a huge part of this. I’ve always been inspired by the food on our travels and it wasn’t just food dishes I began recreating but I found baking also became my newfound passion.
My sweet tooth cravings grew and I found this love and need to bake constantly whilst experimenting with new flavours. Believe me, there’s always something so rewarding with a successful bake, from the prepping of ingredients to the beating of the mixer to fragrant aromas that fill my home and the first bite I personally like to enjoy whilst I wind down with a cup of tea in the evening.
Being a keen baker I have watched and baked along ‘The Great British Bake Off’ in my own home kitchen, sharing my weekly bakes with family, friends and of course on social media.
For many years I have continuously received comments on how delicious my bakes are and that I should apply to enter Bake Off, but honestly, the thought of baking under time pressure just isn’t for me.
In autumn of 2019 I saw a local community bake off competition being advertised on social media where you could bring along your very own creation to be judged instead. I believed this was a good opportunity to challenge myself and try something different, so I entered. I was really excited but also nervous as I’d never entered a baking competition or baked for anyone other than my social circle before.
My entries for the local bake off competition in 2019 were my Ras Malai and Gajjar Halwa cakes that won me the title and 1st place of ‘The Great Highfields Bake Off 2019!’
I couldn’t quite believe it when my name was announced for the winning cake, I was beyond ecstatic and so proud of myself! That moment will be forever etched into my memory. The judges commented on my outstanding flavours and lightness of my bake – a resounding success!
This was the final push I needed! Along with the continuous support of my family I spent the next few months baking using flavours that were childhood favourites and perfecting the recipes. I have finally launched Ca.ake for all to enjoy.
